Still looking for someone to convince you that greenhouse evaporative cooling can really work?
There is a lot of negative scepticism in the greenhouse industry about evaporative cooling. This is because many companies that profess to have greenhouse evaporative cooling solutions haven't been able to deliver the goods. After a while, the word gets out that high pressure misting systems simply don't work effectively as a greenhouse cooling method.
I'm not here to convince you either. In fact, I agree that almost all of the attempts at cooling greenhouses with high pressure misters and foggers have failed. When we talk to greenhouse growers that use evaporative cooling systems they typically tell us that they get very marginal cooling of only 5 degrees or so. Not only that, the feed-back we regularly receive also shows that most of these so-called solutions also can cause undue wetting of the surfaces in a greenhouse and wetness can pose very real disease and mold growth issues.
It wasn't until the last several years that a new technology started to emerge that was based on an entirely different fogging method. This technology was based on the utilization of a proprietary low pressure fog emitter that could emit water droplets that were always in the 4 micron range. Since traditional high pressure fogging systems have always advertised a fog droplet that is 10 microns at minimum, this was a significant breakthrough. But the size of the water droplets of this breakthrough technology was even less exciting than the fact that these water droplets were always consistently sized.
One of the major problems with traditional greenhouse evaporative cooling systems that utilize 1000PSI emitters is that the fog droplet sizes are all over the map. It is both the large and inconsistent size of the water droplets these systems produce that cause them to fail because these water droplets can't evaporate fast enough to efficiently pull heat out of the air. Like previously mentioned, the lack of evaporation also causes the unwanted wetting of surfaces.
